Abstract
The textbook assessment is regulated in Government Regulation No. 32 of 2013
on the National Education Standards article 43, in which the content, language,
presentation and textbook text lessons become the focus of the National Education
Standards assessment. The Objective of this study is to describe the suitability and
quality of English textbooks for grade VII students used in SMP Plus Islamic
Village which are specifically viewed from: 1) the feasibility of content; 2)
feasibility of presentation 3) feasibility of book performance 4) readability of texts
in the book. The research method is document analysis. The data were gathered
from English in Mind textbook. After obtaining the data, the writer analyzed the
data from the textbook with the requirements specified in BSNP by giving a score
in scale. The writer also analyzed the reading materials using Fry Graphic to see
the readability level of the text. The findings of this research state that the
materials in the textbook as the criteria of the feasability of content, feasibility of
book presentation and the feasibility of book performance are good and in
accordance with the requirements of BSNP, but the readability was not in
accordance for the seventh grade students. / Penilaian buku teks diatur dalam PP nomor 32 tahun 2013 tentang Standar
Nasional Pendidikan pasal 43, dimana kelayakan isi, bahasa, penyajian dan
kegrafikaan buku teks pelajaran menjadi fokus penilaian Badan Standar Nasional
Pendidikan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan kesesuaian dan kualitas
buku pelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa kelas VII yang digunakan di SMP Plus
Islamic Village yang secara khusus dilihat dari: 1) kelayakan isi; 2) kelayakan
penyajian 3) kelayakan kegrafikaan 4) tingkat keterbacaan teks dalam buku
tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Analisis Isi. Data
diambil dari buku English in Mind. Setelah memperoleh data, data dianalisa
berdasarkan indikator kesesuaian kualitas, isi, penyajian, kegrafikaan dan teks
menggunakan instrumen ceklis dengan skala yang diterbitkan BSNP dan
mengukur tingkat keterbacaan menggunakan grafik Fry. Hasil temuan didapatkan
bahwa materi dalam buku baik menurut penilaian komponen kelayakan isi,
penyajian dan kegrafikaan berdasarkan BSNP. Namun, Keterbacaan teks dalam
buku memiliki tingkat keterbacaan yang kurang baik untuk dijadikan teks
membaca kelas VII berdasarkan grafik fry.
