Abstract
Servant Leadership is one of the leadership styles that a leader needs to have,
including teachers who are leaders in the classrooms. The purpose of this research
is to see characteristic of and how teachers implement the servant leadership,
teachers’ motivation in performing task as Servant Leader, and the constraints that
the teachers encounter. This research uses a qualitative research method and the
design is phenomenology. Data are collected by semi-structured interview, deeper
interview and observation, and validated through a triangulation technique. The
results of this study show that the characteristics of servant leader are empathy,
good conceptualization, building community, humble, listening, stewardship. The
teachers are motivated by their love children and God, and God's calling. The
obstacles come from internal constraints within oneself such as selfishness, feeling
unappreciated, complaining, and lack of patience to hold back emotions. / Servant Leadership merupakan salah satu bentuk gaya kepemimpinan yang perlu
dimiliki oleh seorang pemimpin, termasuk guru yang merupakan pemimpin di
kelasnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat lebih dalam apakah
karakteristik dan bagaimana Servant Leadership diterapkan oleh guru, motivasi
guru dalam melakukan tugas sebagai Servant Leadership dan kendala apakah yang
dihadapi oleh guru dalam penerapannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian
kualitatif dengan desain penelitian fenomenologi. Data dikumpulkan melalui
wawancara semi-terstruktur, wawancara mendalam dan observasi serta divalidasi
dengan menggunakan teknik triangulasi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa
karakteristik Servant Leader yang ditemukan meliputi berempati, konseptualitas
yang baik, membangun komunitas, kerendahan hati, mendengarkan, memahami
yang dilayani. Motivasi guru dalam melakukan Servant Leadership adalah
kecintaan terhadap anak-anak, kecintaan terhadap Tuhan dan panggilan (calling)
Tuhan. Kendala yang ditemukan merupakan kendala internal berupa sering
munculnya sifat egois, merasa tidak dihargai, mengeluh dan kurang sabar untuk
menahan emosi.
