Abstract

Peneliti menyarankan untuk para perawat dan bidan lebih intensif dalam melakukan promosi dan edukasi kesehatan guna meningkatkan tingkat pengetahuan ibu tentang kolostrum = Colostrum is a part of breast milk which is very important to give to babies because colostrum contains immunity, especially immunoglobulin (IgA) to protect babies from various infectious diseases and these substances will not be found in subsequent breast milk or in formula milk. Factors that can affect postpartum mothers in giving colostrum to newborns are age, education level, information sources and employment. This study aims to identify the level of knowledge of postpartum mothers about colostrum according to demographic characteristics in private hospitals in Central Indonesia. This study uses quantitative methods with descriptive design. The population amounted to 223 people with a sample of 69 people obtained through Slovin calculation techniques. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. The instrument test meets the validity with r count > r table and reliability is above 0.6. The results obtained were 42 respondents (60.9%) had a good level of knowledge, who had a sufficient level of knowledge were 26 people (37.7%) and those who had less knowledge were 1 person (1.4% . The conclusion of this study is that respondents or patients in the maternity room have a good level of knowledge about the importance of colostrum. Researchers suggest that nurses and midwives are more intensive in conducting promotions and health education to increase the level of knowledge of mothers about colostrum.
