Abstract
As a rule of law, the state is responsible for ensuring that every citizen is treated equally in the eyes of the law, as well as guarantees for every citizen to have access to justice. With the issuance of Law Number 16 of 2011 concerning Legal Aid, it is a manifestation of the state in taking part in making it happen where every citizen has the rights and the state has guaranteed the rights of every citizen to get protection and access to justice. In Law Number 16 of 2011 concerning Legal Aid, it formulates the role of paralegals. The purpose of this writing is to determine the role of paralegals in providing legal assistance to society for law enforcement and to find out legal protection for paralegals in carrying out their duties as law enforces in providing legal assistance to the community. This study uses an empirical juridical law research method using a statutory approach and a conceptual approach. The results of this study found that paralegals are one that has a role in providing legal assistance to society for law enforcement. Provision of legal assistance to the community by paralegals, namely through the contribution of paralegals in assisting advocates in preparing to provide legal aid services to the community, which are only limited to non-litigation services. This legal aid service is required to be under the auspices of an accredited Legal Aid Institute from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Legal protection for paralegals in carrying out their duties as law enforces in providing legal assistance to the community is limited to what is written in the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights and based on the results of interviews with related parties, what the author discusses, what is not regulated in the Minister of Law and Human Rights are handed over to the Legal Aid Institute (LBH) who recruited Paralegals.
