Abstract

Fenomena dalam penelitian ini diambil dari tantangan yang dialami oleh mahasiswa yang dapat menjadi tekanan dan berdampak pada kesehatan mental. Mahasiswa dituntut perlu bisa beradaptasi dengan kondisi tersebut di saat konsep dirinya masih dalam pematangan. Selain itu, kondisi pandemi yang terjadi saat ini semakin memperkeruh kondisi mahasiswa menjadi lebih cemas dan tertekan. Oleh karena itu, mahasiswa memerlukan suatu sikap positif dalam menghadapi situasi sulit tersebut. Salah satu sikap positif yang dapat dikembangkan adalah self-compassion. Sikap baik terhadap diri tentunya dapat terbentuk dari cara mahasiswa menilai atau mengevaluasi sesuatu. Prinsip yang mendasari individu dalam bersikap disebut juga dengan nilai. Peneliti mengambil nilai openness to change sebagai salah satu nilai yang berkaitan dengan self-compassion. Openness to change menekankan sikap terbuka terhadap pengalaman sehingga kaitannya dapat dilihat dari sikap terbuka tersebut yang mampu mendorong mahasiswa untuk melihat dirinya lebih positif. Melihat adanya kaitan antara kedua variabel, peneliti memutuskan untuk melakukan penelitian dengan metode kuantitatif dan teknik korelasional Spearman's Rho. Penelitian dilakukan kepada 255 orang mahasiswa yang tinggal di wilayah Jakarta dan Tangerang. Berdasarkan hasil uji korelasi, ditemukan bahwa mahasiswa dengan nilai openness to change ditemukan memiliki korelasi positif dan signifikan dengan self-compassion (p<.05). / The phenomenon in this study is taken from the challenges which can be stressful and have negative impact on student’s mental health. Students are required to be able to adapt to stressful conditions while their self-concept are still developing. In addition, the current pandemic have worsened the condition of students, becoming more anxious. Therefore, the students need a positive attitude in dealing with these difficult situations. One of the positive attitudes that can be developed is self-compassion. A good attitude can certainly be formed from the way students assess or evaluate something. The principle that underlies individual behavior is also known as personal value. In this study, the researcher decided to take the value of openness to change as one of the values related to self-compassion. Openness to change itself emphasizes an open attitude towards experience so that the relationship can be seen from this open attitude which is able to encourage students to see themselves more positively. The researcher decided to conduct research using quantitative methods and the Spearman's Rho correlational technique. The research was conducted on 255 students living in the Jakarta and Tangerang areas. Based on the results of the correlation test, it was found that students with scores of openness to change were found to have a positive correlation with self-compassion (p <.05).
