Abstract
Trivium of Classical Christian Education becomes an alternative solution
for the decline values in public education system.Trivium consists of grammar,
logic and rethoric, which relates to knowledge, understanding and wisdom. Three
of them are the qualities needed from a leader. The aim of this research is to seek
the significant values of trivium in student's leadership development and
investigating some obstacles experienced by principals in trivium method
implementation. A qualitative research using phenomenological approach in
social context of Vickery Christian Academy, which has known of using this
system, is examined to describe the value gained from individual experiences of
trivium. The instruments were interview and class observation. The interviewees
were 10 teachers, students and alumnis of Vickery Christian Academy, Jakarta.
Data was processed by analytic coding using NVivo 12. Research showed that
there were four significant values of trivium for leadership development: Building
a Strong Christian Faith, Training the Christian Mind, Proficiency in Persuasive
Communication Skill, and The Potential of Forming a Transformational Leader.
These values can be seen through teachers, students, and alumnis who have
experienced the learning process with trivium. Obstacles found in implementing
trivium are Individual Factors (person's capability and personality) and VisionMission Communication. / Trivium dari pendidikan Kristen klasik menjadi alternatif yang ditawarkan
sebagai solusi masalah degradasi nilai pada sistem pendidikan umum. Trivum
terdiri dari grammar, logika dan retorika yang berhubungan dengan pengetahuan,
pengertian dan hikmat. Ketiganya merupakan kualitas yang dibutuhkan oleh
seorang pemimpin. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menggali signifikansi
trivium bagi pengembangan kepemimpinan murid dan meneliti kendala-kendala
yang dialami pemimpin sekolah dalam penerapan trivium. Penelitian kualitatif
dengan pendekatan fenomenologi di Vickery Christian Academy yang
menerapkan sistem pendidikan Kristen klasik tersebut, dilakukan untuk
mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai yang didapatkan dari individu berdasarkan
pengalaman mereka terhadap trivium. Instrumen penelitian adalah wawancara dan
observasi kelas. Narasumber terdiri dari guru, murid dan alumni Vickery Christian
Academy yang semuanya berjumlah sepuluh orang. Pengolahan data dilakukan
dengan koding analitik menggunakan program NVivo 12.Hasil penelitian
menunjukkan bahwa terdapat empat signifikansi trivium dari pendidikan Kristen
klasik bagi pengembangan kepemimpinan murid di Vickery Christian Academy,
yakni: Membangun Iman Kristen yang Kuat, Mengasah Pemikiran Kristen,
Kecakapan Berkomunikasi Secara Persuasif dan Potensi Pengembangan
Kepemimpinan Transformasional. Signifikansi nilai-nilai tersebut dapat dilihat
melalui pengalaman guru, murid, dan alumni yang telah mengalami proses belajar
mengajar dengan menggunakan trivium. Kendala yang ditemukan dalam
menerapkan trivium adalah Faktor Invididu dan Komunikasi Visi Misi.
