Abstract
Background: Stress can be a trigger for menstrual disorders in female college students. When stress happen, cortisol causes hormonal imbalances that affect the menstrual cycle, so the menstrual cycle becomes disrupted. Preliminary survey results of nursing in a Private University Tangerang showed that 17 out of 30 people have stress and irregular menstrual cycles. Aim: To determine the relationship of stress levels with menstrual cycles in a Private University Tangerang. Research methods: This study uses a quantitative correlative research method with a cross sectional approach with a sample of 244 respondents. The instrument in this study consisted of 28 statements about the menstrual cycle with a Cronbach alpha value of 0.819 and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale 42 (DASS 42) questionnaire. Analysis of the data used is the Spearman test. Results: The results of univariate analysis showed that the majority of female students experienced normal stress by 81 respondents (33.2%) and irregular menstruation by 135 respondents (57%). The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between stress levels and the menstrual cycle of the Faculty of Nursing female students at a Private University in Tangerang with a value of p = 0,000 (p <0.05) and a value of r = -0.245. Recommendations: For further researchers it is recommended to look for factors that influence the menstrual cycle such as obesity, overactivity, nutritional status and for respondents to be expected to pay more attention to their menstrual cycles.
