Abstract

Background: Clinical guidance is designed to apply the theory obtained in academics in a complete clinical discussion. Clinical Advisors must have clinical educators who accept student mentors to gain knowledge, skills and evaluate the actions taken by students in the clinical field. The clinical guidance process is carried out by each participant in the same nursing education at Pelita Harapan University. Observations made by the author, students begin clinical practice from the first semester with a full guidance from clinical educators, and the higher the semester the intensity of the clinical supervisor / clinical educator in conducting clinical guidance is increasing. Based on the results of interviews with 10 students who received clinical guidance provided by the clinical supervisor the higher the semester. Objectives: To determine students' perceptions about the competence of clinical counselors. Methods: Quantitative by using descriptive., There is an instrument used is the NCTEI questionnaire for students' perceptions about the competency of clinical educator. The sampling technique used is total sampling with a sample size of 367. Results: The description of students' perceptions about clinical educator competency was assessed that the perception of nursing students about clinical guidance competencies as many as 46.6% of respondents had good perceptions of clinical educator competencies and 53.4% of respondents had unfavorable perceptions of clinical educator competencies. Recommendation: For clinical educator to be able to maintain their competence so that clinical educator is better at providing clinical guidance.
