Abstract
Background: Insomnia is a sleep disorder which is a difficulty to sleep or maintaining sleep. Insomnia can be caused by various things, one of which is the changes or disturbances in circadian rhythms. Circadian rhythms are the result of the body's biological clock that serves to adjust between biological processes and behavioral processes against the outside environment. The prevalence of insomnia in Indonesia reaches 10% and insomnia can lead to decreased quality of life and various diseases, because sleep helps regulate bodily functions and various factors in the body that support daily activities. With the awareness of one of the causes of insomnia, it is expected to decrease the prevalence of the occurrence of insomnia. Objective: To find out the relationship between insomnia and changes in circadian rhtyhm that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic in students of the Faculty of Medicine Pelita Harapan University. Methodology: This study used a cross sectional method. Data were collected through filling out the MEQ questionnaire, descriptive questions that are part of the MCTQ, ISI, DASS-21, and IPAQ via online for a minimum of 127 samples. Then the data processed using Chi-square or fisher and SPSS 27. Results: From 131 of total samples, there are 43 (59,7%) of participants include in evening type of circadian rhythm those has a significant relations with insomnia (p value <0,001; OR=4,349; 95%CI=2,051-9,224). Conclusion: There is a significant relation between circadian rhythm with insomnia.
