Abstract
Echolocation is one of animal’s technic to do navigation. Some people also have this capability especially blind people. Echolocation has a similarity concept with SONAR (Sound Navigation and Ranging) on detecting an object.
In this experiment, echolocation concept is applied to detect an objects. This experiment purposes to predict the size of an object in front of it. Unlike SONAR that can only detect the presence and distance of an object with ultrasonic waves, this experiment use audio frequency to detect the presence and distance of an object. According to the result, the presence and distance of an object can be predicted and analyzed through the variation of transmitted frequency with an average error of 14.52% when 1 kHz waves is transmitted, 3.18 % when 4 kHz waves is transmitted and 10.43 %. When 8 kHz is transmitted. On the other hand, this experiment found that the duration of transmitted signal (guide) is important to predict the separation of an objects. This experiment shows that 3 ms of transmitted signal is too long to measure 0.3 m separation of an objects. / Echolocation, merupakan sebuah teknik yang digunakan oleh beberapa
jenis hewan untuk melakukan navigasi. Beberapa orangpun berhasil menerapkan
kemampuan echolocation ini. Prinsip kerja echolocation memiliki persamaan
dengan prinsip kerja SONAR (Sound Navigation and Ranging), yaitu memiliki
kemampuan untuk mendeteksi objek yang ada di depannya.
Dalam penelitian ini konsep echolocation diterapkan dalam pendeteksian
benda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperkirakan ukuran objek yang ada di
depannya. Berbeda dengan SONAR yang hanya bisa mendeteksi keberadaan dan
jarak objek menggunakan frekuensi ultrasonik, penelitian ini menggunakan
gelombang suara dengan frekuensi berbeda untuk mendeteksi keberadaan, jarak.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, keberadaan, dan jarak dapat ditentukan
dan dianalisis. Percobaan ini memiliki rata-rata persentase error sebesar 14,52%
pada frekuensi 1 kHz, 3,18 % pada frekuensi 4 kHz dan 10,43 %.pada frekuensi 8
kHz. Selain itu, ditemukan bahwa durasi sinyal transmit (guide) penting untuk
menentukan jarak antar objek. Dalam percobaan ini durasi sinyal guide adalah 3
ms. Durasi sinyal ini terlalu panjang untuk mengukur jarak antar objek sebesear
0,3 m.
