Abstract

Sebuah pengolahan spasial tidak terlepas dari peradaban. Manusia dipandang sebagai seorang individu yang hidupnya dibentuk oleh alam keberadaannya: kesetempatan. Perilaku individu merefleksikan dirinya dan tempatnya berada: konteks lokal. Individu meletakkan dirinya sebagai bagian dari lokal, menjunjung tinggi lokalitas, dan memaknainya sebagaimana menghormati dirinya dan tempatnya berada. Konteks lokal melekat sebagai identitas sekelompok individu, yakni masyarakat setempat berdasarkan daerahnya masing-masing. Identitas yang mampu menyingkap proses perjalanan masyarakat dan lingkungannya. Kehadiran teknologi menyuguhkan perilaku instan pada manusia, hingga memunculkan degradasi makna dan identitas. Individu melepaskan dirinya dari belenggu lokalitas untuk berorientasi ke depan. Kunci untuk menghidupkan lokalitas adalah memaknainya; bukan berarti berada di belakang zaman, melainkan bagaimana senantiasa merangkul lokalitas bersama-sama, yaitu melalui desain sebagai signifikansi kemajuan dalam pembangunan. Principal desainer asal Bali, Popo Danes dan Melati Danes merupakan tokoh masyarakat yang karyanya menggaungkan kembali “jiwa” lokalitas. Namun fenomena pandemi membawa situasi stagnan dalam pembangunan, menjadi jalan berkelok bagi media berdialog principal dalam berkarya. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pengumpulan data yang bersifat langsung, ikut berada dalam situasi pandemi lingkungan yang diteliti di Popo Danes Architect dan Melati Danes Interior, observasi dan wawancara dengan metode etnografis. Data diperoleh akan dianalisis menggunakan metode studi kasus komparatif terhadap dua proyek perusahaan terkait dalam bidang hospitality, user-centered namun mengangkat konteks lokal. Teori yang melingkupi lokalitas menjadi tolok ukur dalam analisis penelitian ini, menghasilkan karakter desain dan manifestasi gaya desain principal yang kontekstual terhadap lokalitas. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh uraian pemahaman akan pemaknaan definisi lokalitas yang sederhana namun kompleks, tidak semata pada karya desain, melainkan berangkat dari diri principal dalam berkarya, gaya desainnya. / Creating a spatial is inseparable from the civilization. Human is seen as an individual, whose life is shaped by the nature: place. Individual behavior reflects on himself and his where-being: the local context. Individuals put themselves as a part of the local itself, uphold the locality through the act of interpreting as in respecting themselves and the place they inhabit. The local context inherent the identity of a group of individual: the local community, based on their respective regions – an identity which unveils the trails of process enveloped behind. Apparently, the presence of technology lures with instant desire towards humans, which leads to meaning and identity degradation to the local context. One could see the individuals break themself free from the shackles of locality to chase forward. Locality breathed as they are alive, whilst the key to reenact them is by the action of respectfully interpreting; not equally means being behind the present, but embracing them along times, through design as the time marker towards these passerbies of the world. Principal designers from Bali, Popo Danes and Melati Danes are notable for their works of echoing the “soul” of locality. However, the pandemic phenomenon has abruptly brought a halt to development industry, become a winding road for their creative process of interpreting locality into dialogue through design. This research is conducted by collecting datas, writer as the researcher being immersed into this current pandemic situation in following companies, through observations and interviews lensed with etnographic method. The obtained datas is analyzed in comparative case study on hospitality design projects of the company. Theories on locality as the basis of this research analysis, uncovers the expression of design character and shows contextual manifestation of the principal’s particular design style to locality. The research resulting in an understandment of locality through intrepretations: simplicity unfolding the complexity of implied meanings, not only in design works, but departed from the principals’ inner self into their work, their design style.
