Abstract
Film yang berjudul “The Social Dilemma” dirilis pada 26 Januari 2020. Film ini berusaha memberikan gambaran mengenai betapa menyeramkannya media sosial yang sudah melekat dengan kehidupan manusia pada era digital ini, terutama bagi generasi muda yang sangat aktif di media sosial. Film ini menceritakan bahwa semua aktivitas yang kita lakukan di internet dan media sosial diawasi, direkam, dan diukur oleh sistem yang telah dirancang sedemikian rupa. Melihat film berkualitas yang telah
memenangkan beberapa penghargaan dan juga mengangkat topik yang sangat erat hubungannya dengan kondisi saat ini, dimana semakin banyak pengguna media sosial
maka peneliti bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggambaran ketergantungan media sosial dan juga dampaknya pada film “The Social Dilemma”.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode semiotika
Roland Barthes. Penelitian ini berfokus pada 10 adegan mengenai ketergantungan media sosial dan juga dampaknya. Melalui analisis terhadap petanda, penanda, makna
denotasi, dan makna konotasi peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa akibat pengelolaan media sosial yang berdasarkan pada keuntungan maka perusahaan membuat pengguna menjadi bergantung terhadap media sosial. Sistem algoritma membuat ketergantungan terhadap media sosial dengan memperhitungkan data pengguna untuk menampilkan
konten sesuai dan membuat pengguna tidak bisa lepas dari media sosial. Film “The Social Dilemma” berusaha untuk menolak ideologi medium atau media sosial adalah
hal yang netral. Karena makna dari film ini adalah penggambaran bahwa media sosial bisa membawa berbagai efek negatif sehingga menolak mitos bahwa media sosial
wajib dimiliki./ The film entitled “The Social Dilemma” was released on January 26, 2020. This film tries to give an idea of how scary social media is that has been attached to human life in this digital era, especially for the younger generation who are very active on
social media. This film tells that all the activities we do on the internet and social media are monitored, recorded, and measured by a system that has been designed in such a way. Seeing quality films that have won several awards and also raised topics that are very closely related to current conditions, where there are more and more social media users, the researcher aims to find out the description of social media addiction and also
their effects in the film "The Social Dilemma".
