Background: High emotional intelligence allows students to manage anxiety well, show maturity in dealing with problems, and help students develop their competencies in clinical practice. Objective: To determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and anxiety level during clinical practicum in nursing students. Method: This study was a correlational quantitative using cross sectional study. The population was 107.822 nursing students in Java, obtaining 399 respondents. The instruments used in this study were The Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT) and the Hamilton Rating Scale Anxiety (HAM-A). Data was analysed using Spearman Rank test. Results: There was a negative correlation between emotional intelligence with anxiety of nursing students in clinical practicum (=0,001; r value=-0,173). Recommendation: It is recommended that further research to be conducted to identify factors that can cause anxiety while doing clinical practicum and to investigate factors that may help students to improve their emotional intelligence.
