Abstract

Persepsi khalayak terhadap berbagai aspek dalam kehidupan, termasuk pemberdayaan perempuan, sangat mudah dipengaruhi dengan adanya media, terutama peran media dalam hiburan. Selama bertahun-tahun, istilah pemberdayaan perempuan telah membuka jalan dengan mandiri di dalam benak banyak orang. Maraknya kehadiran perempuan dalam banyak situasi-situasi sosial meningkat, bahkan dalam industri perfilman. Namun masih banyak orang yang tidak menyadari nilai-nilai dan gagasan-gagasan yang sesungguhnya dianut dan dipercayakan oleh pemberdayaan perempuan. Hal ini bisa terjadi dikarenakan adanya sejumlah film yang gagal untuk menghadirkan representasi pemberdayaan perempuan yang sesungguhnya. Terlepas dari kurangnya kesadaran ini, film ‘Clueless’, berhasil memvisualisasikan dirinya di sekitar pahlawan wanita yang kuat, feminine, dan memberdayakan perempuan yang menarik untuk minat peneliti dalam bagaimana film tersebut menggambarkan pemberdayaan wanita melalui karakternya. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi, dengan teori analisa wacana kritis Sara Mills untuk menganalisis lebih lanjut isi dan adegan film yang dapat mewakili pemberdayaan perempuan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tinjauan adegan-adegan tertentu dari film untuk dianalisis. Peneliti menemukan bahwa film 'Clueless' mengekspresikan nilai-nilai pemberdayaan perempuan lain melalui komunikasi verbal dan non-verbal dalam adegan, dialog, karakter wanita, mengatasi konflik, mendukung diri sendiri serta orang lain. Peneliti menemukan adanya kesamaan nilai-nilai pemberdayaan wanita dengan karakter di film ‘Clueless’. / Audience’s perception of many aspects in life, including women empowerment is mainly influenced by entertainment media. For many years, the term women empowerment has paved its way for many people. The rise of women in social situations increased, including the film industry. However, there are plenty of women and men, who does not realize the values that women empowerment believes, since several films fails to deliver a representation of women empowerment. Despite the lack of this awareness, the movie, ‘Clueless’, succeeds to visualize a feminine, and empowering heroine which interests the researcher to how the movie illustrates women empowerment through its characters. The researcher uses the qualitative approach with the content analysis method, with Sara Mills’ critical discourse analysis theory to further analyse the content and the scenes of the film that may represent women empowerment. Data collection is carried out through reviewing scenes from the movie. The researcher finds that the film ‘Clueless’ represents women empowerment through the verbal and non-verbal communication of the scenes, dialogues, female characters, resolve conflict, and support others and personally. The researcher finds a resemblance of women empowerment values with the characters in the film.
