Background: gastrointestinal problem is a disorder or a disease that attack our intestinal track. A disorder in the gastrointestinal system can be caused by a wrong eating habit, bacterial infection, gastrointestinal track abnormalities, and stress. The number of prevalence towards gastrointestinal disorders in Indonesia is 91,6% in the city of Medan. One of risk factor that caused gastrointestinal problem is stress, it happens because of an excessive acid reflux and there’s a reduced contractibility of the stomach that causes nausea after the stress stimulated the system. Stress is a condition in which the state of the body is disrupted because of the pressure obtained mentally or physically, stress is also a result of when an individual interact with surrounds environment and is considered as a threat to an individual well being. Purpose of study:. to see a description of the perception of academic stress level, see a picture of the level of symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders, and analyze the relationship of the perception of academic stress level on the level of symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders. Research methods: this research is using quantitative methods, with research design’s using associative correlation design. The population in this research are college students in one of private university in west of Indonesia. Sampling using purposive random sampling as many as 203 college students. Sampling was carried out using the Slovin’s formula, total sampling with an errorof 5%. Result: Based on the result of the correlation test the relationship involving the relationship of academic stress levels to the level of gastrointestinal disorders in students at one of the universities in western Indonesia (p = 0.001, Somers D = 0.245). Recommendation: From this study the authors suggest further researchers to develop how much influence the level of stress on the level of gastrointestinal disorders symptoms.
