Background: In recent years, many students use Smartphones to make it easier for them to complete their work with various applications available. There are a number of Level 1 Medical Faculty Students at a Private University in Western Indonesia who use a Smartphone for more than ten hours with reasons for learning and social media. Research Objectives: To find out the description of Smartphone usage and Addiction in level 1 Faculty of Medicine Students, in one Private University in Western Indonesia. Research Methods: This research uses quantitative design with using questionnaire online as instrument distributed to 195 students of the level 1 Faculty of Medicine Students, taken by accidental sampling technique, and using univariate data analysis. Research Results: With a total sample of 54 people, the results of the Smartphone Usage questionnaire showed that most of the students used Smartphones with a duration of more than six hours per day ie as many as 30 people (55.6%), the highest frequency of use was 51-100 times per day as many as 13 people (24.1%), the highest distance between wake-up time and Smartphone usage is 5 minutes after waking up to 21 people (38.9%), and the most dominant purpose of using smartphones is for social media as many as 35 people (64.8%) while the SAS-SV questionnaire results showed that the number of respondents who experienced Smartphone Addiction was 29 people (54%). Recommendation: Researchers can further deepen the Smartphone Usage and Addiction variable and extend the subject not only to 1st-level students but to the entire class of the Faculty of Medicine.
