Abstract

Background : From UNICEF’s data, exclusive breast feeding is necessary for 0-6 months babies. However, currently, only 32,6% mothers worldwide are providing exclusive breastfeeding during the first 6 months of infancy. From Ministry of Health, 62,7% mothers are providing exclusive breastfeeding for infancy. Aim : To find out what factors in exclusive breast feeding for mother who have 6-24 months babies in one of western Indonesian communities.. Research Method : This research method is a descriptive quantitative study. The population are mothers who have 6-24 months babies in one of western Indonesian communities. With a total population of 150 people. The sampling technique in this study is accidental sampling technique. The instrument used is questionnaire. The data analysis technique that will be used is univariate analysis. Results: Research results is internal factors: age ≤ 30 years (47,7%), good knowledge (86,4%), inhibiting health conditions (52.3%), negative-positive perceptions of mothers equally distributed, last education of the Academy / PT (70.5%), housewife occupation (43.2%), originating from Java (55.8%), using health facilities (100%). get the support of health workers (68.2%), are exposed to the promotion of formula milk (54.5%), give breastfeeding according to tradition (47.7%), and provide food or drink according to tradition (25.0%). Suggestion: Puskesmas and Posyandu need to be vigorous in educating the public about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, and mothers need to be more active in seeking information and avoiding negative perceptions about exclusive breastfeeding.
