Abstract

Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (IPA) merupakan sebuah ilmu yang membawa siswa mengenal dan memahami cara kerja alam semesta secara lebih mendalam. Terlepas dari pentingnya mata pelajaran ini, IPA menjadi tantangan tersendiri bagi siswa kelas VI Sekolah Tunas Muda. Setelah melalui proses pengamatan lebih lanjut terhadap pembelajaran di kelas, ditemukan bahwa sebagian besar siswa kurang memiliki kemampuan berpikir kritis, memecahkan masalah, dan kemandirian. Untuk mengatasi kekurangan ketiga kompetensi tersebut, guru kelas VI melakukan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) guna membenahi permasalahan yang ada di kelasnya. Rumusan masalah dalam PTK ini adalah ‘Apakah penerapan PBL dapat meningkatkan kompetensi berpikir kritis, memecahkan masalah, dan kemandirian siswa kelas VI Sekolah Tunas Muda pada mata pelajaran IPA?’. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya peningkatan kompetensi berpikir kritis, memecahkan masalah, dan kemandirian dalam penerapan PBL pada mata pelajaran IPA di kelas VI Sekolah Tunas Muda. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui beberapa macam instrumen, yaitu lembar observasi, rubrik penilaian, catatan guru sebagai hasil telaah dokumentasi, dan panduan wawancara. Setelah melewati tiga siklus PTK, hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kompetensi berpikir kritis, memecahkan masalah, dan kemandirian dalam penerapan PBL pada mata pelajaran IPA di kelas VI Sekolah Tunas Muda / Science/ Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (IPA) brings students to understand how the universe works more deeply. Despite the importance of this subject, Science/ IPA was a challenge for grade six students at Tunas Muda School. After further observations in the classroom, it was found that the majority of the grade six students lacked the competence of critical thinking, problem solving, and independence in order to fully comprehend the subject. To overcome this problem, the sixth grade teacher did a classroom action research (CAR). The problem statement of this CAR was ‘Can the sixth grade students’ competency in critical thinking, problem solving, and independence skills during Science be improved by implementing Problem-Based Learning (PBL)?’ The research objective was to determine whether there was an improvement in the competence of critical thinking, problem solving, and independence during the implementation of PBL. The data was collected through various instruments, such as: an observation checklist, a rubric, the teacher’s notes, and an interview sheet. After executing three cycles of the classroom action research, the results showed that the students’ competence of critical thinking, problem solving, and independence had increased during the implementation of PBL in Science class
