Abstract

Di zaman modern ini, ada banyak sekolah di Jakarta yang menyediakan program intensif bagi para siswa dimana pengajaran Bahasa Inggris diutamakan. Para siswa diharuskan untuk menggunakan Bahasa Inggris untuk berkomunikasi di sekolah. Sekolah pun mengimplementasikan kurikulum yang menitikberatkan pada penggunaan dua bahasa yaitu Bahasa Indonesia dan Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar dalam proses belajar mengajar. Akan tetapi, para siswa ini ternyata menunjukkan kebingungan mereka akan Bahasa Inggris. Saat berkomunikasi dengan Bahasa Inggris, banyak kesalahan yang mereka lakukan. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini menganalisa berbagai tipe kesalahan yang dibuat para siswa dan faktor yang mempengaruhi saat mereka membuat kesalahan yaitu lingkungan. Di dalam penelitian ini, metode recasts digunakan. Saat siswa membuat kesalahan, koreksi diberikan. Evaluasi mengenai perkembangan kemampuan berbicara siswa dan hasil pengimplemetasian metode recasts didiskusikan pula di penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa membuat empat tipe kesalahan yaitu kesalahan dalam pengucapan, kosakata, struktur dan penerjemahan langsung. Dikarenakan terbatasnya waktu untuk penelitian ini, perkembangan kemampuan berbicara siswa belum terlihat. Lingkungan sekitar siswa yaitu teman, orang tua dan guru masih dianggap kurang dalam menyediakan input bahasa yang baik bagi siswa. Siswa menunjukkan respon positif maupun negatif dan mengekspresikan apa yang mereka rasakan mengenai recasts / Nowadays, many schools in Jakarta provide intensive program of teaching English. The students are exposed to English because the students are required to speak English at school while at the same time the schools implement a curriculum that uses two languages-Bahasa Indonesia and English as the languages of instruction. However, the students who are exposed to English in this school show that they are confused with the language. They make numerous errors particularly in speaking. This classroom action research analyzed the types of errors that the students make and the factor that contributes the most to the production of the errors namely environment. As a suggested solution, this study tried to implement recasts. The evaluation of the students’ improvement in their speaking proficiency and the students’ feedbacks regarding their feelings about recasts were also discussed. This study revealed that the students made four types of error namely pronunciation error, grammatical error, vocabulary error and direct translation error. As for the reasons for producing the errors, two main reasons are identified: (a) L1 interference (b) incomplete mastery of the language. Due to limited time to implement recast treatment, the students have not achieved sufficient improvement on their speaking proficiency. The environment surrounding the students did not provide enough good input as exposure to English. As for the students’ feeling about recasts, the students expressed some positive and negative feelings
