Abstract

Students’ participation is needed to conduct transformational learning process. Unfortunately, during online field experience in a school in Tangerang, the writer found out that the students still had low participation in the class. It showed that as image of God who had fallen, the students need restoration so they could do their responsibility to reflect God’s characters. So, this research aimed to explain factors that caused the primary students grade V have low participation in online learning and the steps the teacher applied to help the students to participate actively. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The first result was the students did not adapt yet to the online learning environment and got the monotonous learning activities. The second result was the teacher’s steps in conducting class discussions to improve students’ class participation. They were putting the students in the breakout room, giving problem to discuss, asking them to give response, and guiding to conclude the discussion. The conclusion was through some steps of the class discussions, the students improved their online class participation. Therefore, the recommendation for further research is to examine more about the usage of learning media by the teacher to enhance students’ activeness.
