Abstract

The recognition of Indonesian Batik as UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage on October 2, 2009, makes batik an essential asset in conducting Indonesian diplomacy. Batik is the main asset in promoting soft power to achieve the interests of the state, both in foreign policy and the national economy. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia officially applies Batik Diplomacy as Indonesia's diplomacy to introduce batik globally in terms of diplomacy and foreign policy. As if the business window was wide open after the stipulation of batik diplomacy, batik is now a market leader in the Indonesian economy. This research aims to explain what batik diplomacy is and how it can contribute to Indonesia's economy. Theories and concepts used in this research include Neoliberalism Theory, combined with the concepts of Soft Power, Public Diplomacy, and Interdependence. This research is qualitative research that will convey the research results through a descriptive method. This research indicates the roles of state and non-state actors in promoting batik diplomacy under three public diplomacy approaches: Informing, Understanding, and Influencing. Through these three approaches, it can be seen the contribution of batik diplomacy in creating an element of interdependence between Indonesia and other countries, which causes an increase in the country's foreign exchange and export value due to the high interest in batik abroad./ Diakuinya Batik Indonesia sebagai Warisan Tak Benda UNESCO pada 2 Oktober 2009 menjadikan batik sebagai salah satu alat penting dalam melakukan diplomasi Indonesia.
