Abstract

Globalization causes international issues that are currently the focus of world attention, namely the emergence of an international terrorist group, namely ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) which has affected the issue of national defense and security. Where this is used by the ISIS international terrorism group to carry out its propaganda well in spreading provocative messages. Currently, ISIS attacks are dominated by cyber attacks on social media. Social media has an important role for international terrorism because propaganda doctrines are very easy to disseminate to the wider community. The approach used in this research is qualitative using secondary data, namely the study of existing data and documents. In reviewing the research, this research uses narrative analysis by analyzing in order to answer the problem formulation. This study uses the theory of liberalism as the basis for analyzing the research topic. Recruitment of terrorist candidates through social media is indeed an effective means for terrorist groups. In addition, the results of this study also show that the propaganda carried out by terrorists through social media provides many advantages, such as spreading information globally, using minimal costs, being easily accessible, and having no binding rules. Although the discourse and propaganda conveyed by ISIS has spread widely among the people, even the propaganda can be easily found on websites and social media that can be accessed by anyone. However, it is never too late for the people in general, and the government in particular, to prevent this propaganda from influencing people's thinking.
