Abstract
DotA2 merupakan game online yang sudah digemari sejak munculnya pendahulunya yaitu DotA. DotA2 sudah merambah ke ajang dunia internasional dimana sudah banyak diadakan turnamen DotA2 baik nasional maupun internasional. DotA2 itu sendiri sudah memiliki banyak pemain dan penggemarnya di seluruh dunia dan dapat dikatakan sebagai salah satu game online yang paling digemari oleh masyarakat di dunia. Turnamen-turnamen yang diadakan memberikan hadiah-hadiah yang dapat mencapai milyaran rupiah.
Popularitas game online DotA2 tidak mengecualikannya dari komunitas- komunitas yang toxic, dimana komunikasi-komunikasi yang dilakukan dapat bersifat negatif dan dapat menjauhkan pemain baru untuk memainkannya. Walaupun begitu, komunikasi antara anggota tim merupakan elemen terpenting dalam memainkan game online ini sehingga pada akhirnya membentuk pola komunikasi yang khas diantara mereka. Dengan tidak adanya komunikasi, tidak mungkin sebuah tim dapat memenangkan sebuah pertandingan DotA2, karena DotA2 tidak lepas dari kerja sama yang sangat membutuhkan komunikasi untuk menjalankan strategi dan kemenangan.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pola komunikasi yang terjadi pada lima pemain game online DotA2 di daerah Jakarta Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode pengumpulan data in- depth-interview. Dari hasil penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa pola komunikasi dalam game DotA2 sangat beragam dan akan berubah sesuai dengan situasi yang terjadi dalam game tersebut. /
DotA2 is an online game that has been popular since its predecessor, DotA. DotA2 has grown into the international arena where many national and international DotA2 tournaments have been held. DotA2 itself already has many players and fans around the world and can be said to be one of the most popular online games by people in the world. The tournaments held provide prizes that can reach billions of rupiah.
The popularity of the online game DotA2 does not exclude it from toxic communities, where communications can be negative and discourage new players from playing it. Even so, communication between team members is the most important element in playing DotA2 so that in the end it forms a distinctive communication pattern between them. In the absence of communication, it is impossible for a team to win a DotA2 match, because DotA2 cannot be separated from cooperation which really requires communication to carry out strategy and victory.
This study aims to find out how the communication patterns that occur in five DotA2 online game players in the West Jakarta area. This study uses a qualitative research approach with in-depth-interview data collection methods. From the results of this study, it was found that the communication patterns in the DotA2 game are very diverse and will change according to the situation that occurs in the game.
