Abstract

Lagu I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry merupakan lagu yang diciptakan oleh Hank Williams. Lagu ini dimainkan ulang secara instrumental oleh John Scofield pada salah satu albumnya yang berjudul Country for Oldman. Improvisasi John Scofield di lagu ini mendapat penghargaan Grammy Awards tahun 2016 dengan penghargaan Best Improvisation. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa improvisasi John Scofield pada lagu ini. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode kualitatif deskriptif, yaitu dengan analisis transkripsi partitur menggunakan teori jazz dan melakukan wawancara dengan narasumber, yaitu Gihon Lohanda, Robert M.R. dan Martinus Teguh. Dari analisis tersebut akan diperoleh kesimpulan mengenai pendekatan dan teknik improvisasi John Scofield pada lagu I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry berdasarkan elemen�elemen musik.
