Abstract

South Korea is considered to be one of the economic miracles of the late twentieth century. From being one of the world's most backward countries to becoming one of the most developed in Park Chung Hee’s administration in the 1970s and then one of the most advanced in the 21st century, from a war-ravaged, desolated and poor country in the 1950s. Its per capita income was less than Ethiopia, India, Yemen, or Haiti. The process was characterized by the roots of Confucianism's philosophical value as the cornerstone of rapid industrialization, astonishing development rates and incremental social transformation. Using the theoretical framework of constructivism, this study examines the role of the Asian Tigers' philosophical values as the roots of Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore in global economic growth, particularly South Korea's economy, discerning how ideas and identity affected South Korea's strategic development and how it achieved its success. Narrative analysis techniques and qualitative approaches are utilized in this research to examine how the Confucian economic development strategy of South Korea has made a significant contribution to the country's economic success. This research concentrates on a few aspects of South Korea's industrialization success story that are often overlooked but have a significant impact on the country's success. Furthermore, the findings point to the importance of Confucianism and attempt to explain how it contributes to social progress by imbuing it with economic significance. The Confucian philosophical values of "remembering" and "representing" one's forefathers served as an important spiritual ethos throughout Korea's social and economic development. The value of the ethos was more than just a moral and ethical guideline; it was also the foundation and cornerstone of South Korea's macrosocial dynamism, which was strongly tied to the country's economic development strategy.
