Abstract

Mahasiswa baru tahun pertama yang memasuki dunia perkuliahan di masa pandemi ini mengalami berbagai perubahan karena memasuki lingkungan baru. Perubahan tersebut diantaranya peralihan dari masa SMA menuju perkuliahan, yang memungkinkan mahasiswa baru tahun pertama masih terbawa cara belajar atau pola saat SMA, sedangkan di tingkat universitas, seorang mahasiswa dituntut untuk lebih mandiri. Ditambah lagi dengan sistem pembelajaran saat pandemi yang membatasi interaksi, menjadikan mahasiswa memiliki student engagement yang rendah. Oleh karena itu, studi ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan kemandirian atau student autonomy dengan student engagement pada mahasiswa baru tahun pertama. Penelitian yang menggunakan metode kuantitatif terhadap 120 partisipan ini menemukan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara student autonomy dengan student engagement pada mahasiswa baru tahun pertama saat pandemi (r = .611, p = .05). Selain itu ditemukan pula bahwa terdapat perbedaan meski tidak signifikan antara student engagement mahasiswa baru tahun pertama yang mendapat beasiswa dan yang tidak (p = .027, < .05). / Freshmen at colleges during pandemic have undergone various changes due to entering a new environment. These changes include the transition from high school to college, which allows them to still be carried away by the way of learning patterns during high school, while at the university level, students are required to be more independent. Coupled with the learning system during pandemic that limits interaction, making students have low student engagement. This study aims to examine the relation between student autonomy with student engagement in first year freshmen. Using quantitative methods on 120 participants, this study found that there’s a relation between student autonomy and student engagement in first year freshmen during pandemic (r = .611, p = .05). It was also found that there’s a difference, although not significant, between the student engagement of first year freshmen who received scholarships and those who didn’t (p = .027, < .05).
