Tingginya pengalaman diskriminasi pada masyarakat beretnis Tionghoa di kota-kota besar di Pulau Jawa dapat memunculkan penilaian subjektif bahwa diri terdiskriminasi, yang disebut sebagai perceived ethnic discrimination. Perceived ethnic discrimination dapat berdampak negatif bagi kondisi psikologis individu, termasuk risiko kemunculan shame. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peran perceived ethnic discrimination sebagai faktor risiko shame pada masyarakat beretnis Tionghoa di kota-kota besar di Pulau Jawa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif dan analisis regresi linear sederhana sebagai metode pengolahan data. Data diperoleh dari 257 partisipan menggunakan Brief Perceived Ethnic Discrimination Questionnaire-Community Version dan External and Internal Shame Scale. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa perceived ethnic discrimination dapat memprediksi shame pada masyarakat beretnis Tionghoa di kota-kota besar di Pulau Jawa. Temuan penelitian ini menyediakan kajian mengenai kesehatan mental masyarakat beretnis Tionghoa yang mengalami diskriminasi. / The high frequency of being discriminated that is experienced by the Chinese ethnic community in the big cities of Java can trigger a subjective perception of being discriminated, that is defined as perceived ethnic discrimination. Perceived ethnic discrimination can have negative impacts toward one’s psychological state, including the risk of shame emergence. The aim of this research is to investigate the role of perceived ethnic discrimination as a risk factor of shame in the Chinese ethnic community in the big cities of Java. This research uses quantitative design and simple regression linear analysis as the method to process the data. Data is obtained from 257 participants using the Brief Perceived Ethnic Discrimination Questionnaire-Community Version and the External and Internal Shame Scale. The result shows that perceived ethnic discrimination can predict shame in the Chinese ethnic community in the big cities of Java. The findings of this research provide a study regarding the mental health of the Chinese ethnic community that is being discriminated against.
