Abstract
Apart from the political, economic, and military aspects, diplomacy can also be done through "alternative paths", one of which is cultural diplomacy. Japan as one of the most influential countries in Asia has implemented cultural diplomacy in various countries, one of which is Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to answer how cultural festivals, as a form of diplomacy, were carried out by Japan in the 2010-2021 period, the golden era of "Japanese" events.
The author uses the perspective of neoliberalism as a theoretical framework in this research. Data was collected by using library techniques, observation, and document analysis. From the research results, it can be explored about the types of Japanese cultural festivals that take place in Indonesia and how cultural diplomacy works in cultural festivals, in this case taking a case study from the Jakarta-Japan Matsuri festival
