Abstract
Globalisasi mempermudah masuknya budaya asing ke dalam negeri, yang juga dapat menyebabkan menurunnya apresiasi terhadap kebudayaan lokal. Salah satu bentuk kebudayaan lokal tersebut adalah rumah adat. Apresiasi terhadapnya dapat ditingkatkan melalui exposure melalui salah satu media yang populer pada zaman modern ini, video game. Salah satu aspek dalam video game untuk memaparkan rumah adat adalah melalui desain latar. Maka, proyek akhir ini mendesain konsep visual latar untuk video game yang terinspirasi dari rumah adat Indonesia. Pengumpulan data menggunakan studi pustaka dan wawancara. Data diperoleh melalui situs web, jurnal akademik, buku, dan wawancara tertulis dengan penulis dari cerpen The Traveler yang digunakan sebagai konten cerita. Hasil dari proyek akhir ini merupakan perancangan desain latar video game dari adaptasi cerpen The Traveler ke dalam produk kreatif berjudul “Little Mallow Town”. Perancangan desain latar meliputi 10 desain bangunan yang dibuat ke dalam environment concept art, desain eksterior, desain isometrik, dan environment sprites. Sebagai landasan desain, digunakan kata kunci traditional houses of Sumatera, Mediterranean architecture, dan heartwarming. Dengan demikian, 10 desain bangunan yang dirancang menggunakan referensi utama dari rumah-rumah adat Sumatera, referensi sekunder dari gaya arsitektur Mediterania untuk menyesuaikan dengan latar waktu tahun 90an pada konten cerita, dan kesan heartwarming melalui pemilihan warna./Globalization allows foreign cultures to enter the country easily, which can also decrease the appreciation for local culture. One form of the local culture is traditional houses. Appreciation towards them can be raised through exposure from one of the popular media nowadays, video game. One aspect of video game to display traditional houses is through environment design. Therefore, this project designs environment concept visual for video game, inspired by the traditional houses of Indonesia. Data collection uses literature review and interview. Data are collected through websites, academic journals, books, and a written interview with the writer of a short story, The Traveller, which is being used as the content. The result of this project is environment design for video game adapted from The Traveller into a creative product called “Little Mallow Town”. The environment design includes 10 building designs made into concept art, exterior designs, isometric designs, and environment sprites. As the foundation of the design, the keywords of traditional houses of Sumatera, Mediterranean architecture, and heartwarming are used. Therefore, the designs use traditional houses of Sumatera as the primary reference, Mediterranean architecture as the secondary to fit the 90’s period in the story, and a heartwarming impression through color.
