Abstract

Hiphop merupakan sebuah bentuk gerakan sosial yang terbentuk di Bronx, New York dan masuk ke Jepang pada tahun 1980-an. Masuknya hiphop ke Jepang terjadi sebagai sebuah dampak dari globalisasi yang memungkinkan hiphop tumbuh serta berkembang di Jepang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keberadaan hiphop sebagai gerakan sosial di Jepang. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menunjukkan peranan gerakan sosial hiphop sebagai aktor nonnegara di tingkat masyarakat. Teori Liberalisme ditetapkan sebagai pagar teoretis yang diiringi dengan konsep Globalisasi, Gerakan Sosial, dan Hak Asasi Manusia (HAM). Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif, dengan metode deskriptif. Peneliti memanfaatkan data sekunder yang diperoleh dari studi pustaka dan penelusuran daring. Data kemudian dianalisis dengan teknik analisis data naratif. Temuan dari penelitian ini menggambarkan proses masuknya hiphop ke Jepang dan perkembangannya. Penelitian juga berhasil mengindentifikasi beberapa isu sosial dominan yang menjadi fokus pergerakan hiphop, yaitu kesenjangan gender, kebebasan berpendapat, dan kemiskinan. Temuan didasarkan pada analisis terhadap kondisi masyarakat Jepang dan aplikasi indikator serta dampak dari sebuah gerakan sosial dalam lingkup bermasyarakat. / Originated in Bronx, New York, hiphop as a social movement entered Japan in the 1980s due to the rapid globalization; which allows hiphop to thrive and develop in Japan. The purpose of this research is to analyze hiphop’s presence as a social movement in Japan. Therefore, this research uncovers the role of hiphop as a social movement, being a non-governmental actor at a societal level. Liberalism was used as a fundamental theory, along with the concept of Globalization, Social Movement, and Human Rights. This research used a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The researcher afterward utilized secondary research through various sources, including online, books, and reports— before collected data was analyzed and elaborated using the narrative analysis technique. The result shows the process of hiphop entering Japan and its development over the years. This research also identifies a few dominant social issues which become the focus of hiphop movement: gender inequality, freedom of speech, and poverty. These findings were based on the analysis of Japanese society and the application of indicators as well as the impact of social movement in a societal scope.
