Abstract

Stability and flexibility are properties that must be possessed by asphalt mixtures, the problem with these two parameters is in the strength to bind between aggregates and asphalt so that it is necessary to add polymer content to the asphalt mixture, in this study using a hot mix of asphalt (HMA) and a warm mixture of asphalt (HMA). WMA, the difference in the two mixtures is in the production temperature where HMA is at a temperature of 150 - 180°C, while WMA is at a temperature of 100-150°C and an addition to the method used in WMA, namely the indirect foaming method with the addition of zeolite by 1-1.5% of the total weight of the mixture, the polymer mixing process in this study used the Polymer Modified Asphalt (PMA) or dry process method. The optimum asphalt content in this study was 6% and the polymer variations were 0%, 5% and 6% for HMA and WMA. The polymer in this study used superplast with the aim of knowing the effect of variations in polymer content on the value of the elastic modulus and knowing the greatest value produced was found in the polymer with what percentage. This research uses Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) which utilizes ultrasonic waves to determine the properties of the asphalt mixture, in this case the modulus of elasticity in the mixture. Based on UPV testing, the highest elasticity modulus value at HMA is 21.75 GPa with 6% polymer and 19.70 GPa with 6% polymer at WMA. 0%, 5% and 6% increased with increasing elasticity. The parameters that also increased were stability and MQ, while the flow value was inversely proportional to the increase in elasticity for both HMA and WMA.
