Abstract

This study is made based on the fact that there are grade VII students at Junior High School X who are still having low vocabulary knowledge and that hinders them to have the ability of language form and comprehension. Vocabulary is proved as essential since it is the basis unit of communication. Christian language teachers need to understand that language is wonderfully created by God and He is the one who preserves language as the mean of communication, both nationally and internationally. When language teachers understand this, they will try to find the best way to teach language to their students. This study aims to find strategies to improve students’ vocabulary knowledge and to what extent those give impact on the vocabulary learning. There are four strategies discussed which are the use of vocabulary listing, flashcards, storytelling method, and digital materials. The result shows that most of the strategies discussed give significant improvements in the students’ vocabulary knowledge. It is recommended for language teachers to try implementing the strategies to improve the students' vocabulary and keep finding strategies that are suitable with the students’ condition.
