Abstract

Early childhood students at international schools in Indonesia need listening skills and mastery of Indonesian vocabulary to help them develop Indonesian language skills at school. Bahasa Indonesia lesson in South Jakarta XYZ International School is one of the core subjects that introduce and promote Indonesia's culture and language to the international community at XYZ school. Considering this importance, the school promotes this lesson to their's preschool students intently. This class action research aims to implement instructional videos to increase preschool students' listening skills and vocabulary mastery ages four to five. This research uses a classroom action research method with three cycles as a form of action. The research subjects are ten students aged 4-5 years at South Jakarta XYZ School. The triangulation data use field notes, rubrics, and student worksheets. Data analysis was carried out by reducing data, describing data, and making conclusions. Based on the research, the results obtained are; 1. An instructional video can improve students' listening skills scores from 25%-37,5% and the increase vocabulary mastery from 25% - to 50%, which can be seen in the entire stages of three cycles.2. Children's ability to pay attention and listen has also increased students understanding. Participation in mentioning target vocabulary is also shown in the students' expressions while viewing the instructional videos and the students' ability to perceive instructions and questions given by teachers. 3 Perseverance in memorizing and confidence to pronounce the target vocabulary shown through the students' awareness of the mispronounced words, their attempt to correct them and the eagerness to verbalize their understanding.
