Abstract

Along with the development of communication technology, making long-distance romantic relationships (LDR) seems to be a normal thing in the community. Nevertheless, the lack of trust in the LDR causing early separation level which is an average of four and a half months. A supportive situation such as allowing a couple to solve a common problem can develop trust in an interpersonal relationship; as for those situations, often found in an online game. The similiarities in the situation where trust is developed, this study focuses on analysing the development of trust that occurred in in long-distance romantic relationship of gamers. The paradigm used in this study is qualitative with an interpretative approach as research approach. Data collection techniques used in this study is in-depth interview. Four theories: Social Information precessing (SIP), Expectancy Violation Theory (EVT), Social Penetration Theory (SPT), and Interpersonal Trust Concept applied to analyze the development of trust in long-distance romantic relationship of gamers. The results showed that trust in the long-distance relationship of gamers developed at any stage of a relationship, influenced by the fulfillment of the expectations of each individual involved within the romantic relationship. Female gamers developed dependency and assistance from male gamers to solve problems even taking a decision. Freedom of choice in the relationship to leave even engage to others also formed in a long-distance relationship of gamers. / Seiring dengan berkembangnya teknologi komunikasi, membuat hubungan romantik jarak jauh (LDR) seolah menjadi hal yang normal ditengah masyarakat. Meskipun demikian, kurangnya kepercayaan dalam LDR menyebabkan tingkat perpisahan yang cepat yakni rata-rata empat setengah bulan saja. Kepercayaan dalam sebuah hubungan sendiri dapat berkembang dalam sebuah situasi yang mendukung yakni menyelesaikan masalah bersama; adapun situasi demikian, sering ditemui di dalam sebuah online game. Melihat kesamaan situasi dimana kepercayaan berkembang dengan baik, penelitian ini berfokus untuk menganalisa perkembangan kepercayaan yang terjadi di dalam hubungan romantik jarak jauh gamers. Paradigma yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah interpretatif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Wawancara mendalam digunakan sebagai teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini. Empat teori yakni Social Information Precessing (SIP), Expectancy Violation Theory (EVT), Social Penetration Theory (SPT),dan Intrepersonal Trust Concept digunakan untuk menganalisa perkembangan kepercayaan hubungan romantik gamers pada penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kepercayaan dalam hubungan jarak jauh gamers berkembang pada setiap tahap hubungan, dipengaruhi oleh pemenuhan ekspektasi dari setiap individu yang terlibat di dalam sebuah hubungan romantik. Adapun berkembang ketergantungan pada sisi emosinal dari gamers wanita akan dukungan moral dan bantuan dari gamers pria untuk menyelesaikan masalah bahkan mengambil keputusan. Kebebasan dalam menjalin hubungan hingga menjalin hubungan dengan orang lain juga terbentuk dan berkembang didalam hubungan jarak jauh gamers.
