Abstract

Bakteri Staphylococcus epidermidis merupakan salah satu bakteri penyebab utama infeksi nosokomial. Umumnya bakteri ini merupakan flora normal yang ada di kulit manusia, namun dapat menjadi patogen oportunitis bagi individu dengan sistem kekebalan tubuh rendah. Staphylococcus epidermidis juga merupakan salah satu bakteri yang menyebabkan masalah kulit, yaitu jerawat. Pengobatan infeksi bakteri dengan antibiotik dalam jangka panjang dapat menimbulkan resistensi. Serai dapur (Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf) merupakan salah satu bahan alam yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol 70% daun serai dapur terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus epidermidis dengan metode difusi padat, dan menentukan Konsentrasi Hambat Minimum (KHM) dan Konsentrasi Bunuh Minumum (KBM) dengan metode dilusi cair. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi ekstrak 1.000.000 ppm menunjukkan diameter daya hambat dengan kategori intermediate jika dibandingkan dengan kontrol positif klindamisin. KHM pada penelitian ini adalah 12,5% atau 625 µg/mL dan KBM nya adalah 100% atau 5000 µg/mL. / Staphylococcus epidermidis was one of the main bacteria causing nosocomial infections. Generally, this bacteria is a normal flora on human skin, but can be opportunistic pathogens for individuals with low immune systems. This bacteria is also one of the bacteria that cause acne. The treatment of bacterial infections with antibiotics in long term can lead to resistance. Lemongrass ((Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf) is one of the natural ingredients that can be used for alternatice antibacterial. This research aim was to determine the antibacterial efficacy of extracts of lemongrass leaves, antibacterial efficacy of the ethanol 70% extract of lemongrass leaves against Staphylococcus epidermidis using disk diffusion method, and determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) dan Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) using dilution method. This study showed that the extract concentration of 1.000.000 ppm indicated the diameter of inhibitory power in intermediate category compared to positive control clindamycin. The MIC in this study was 12,5% or 625 µg/mL and the MBC was 100% or 5000 µg/mL.
