Abstract

The background of this paper is that there are students who have difficulty learning to read. The purposes are to analyze the character of students who have learning difficulties by finding out the causes and how the teacher overcomes the difficulty. The writer did the field experience for 1 month. The data that use by the writer are reflection, mentor’s feedback, students’ worksheet and interview with mentor. The characteristics possess by students who have difficulty learning to read are, moving head, expressions change, not concentrating, attention is easily distracted, voice is not clear, and like to change the letters. The factor that causes is the students’ learning styles have tended to be more visual. The calling of a Christian teacher as a teacher must help students who are experiencing difficulties. God first coming to earth to serve humans, so teacher must also serve students to overcome the difficulty. The steps taken by the writer and homeroom teacher to deal with this is by communicating with parents, using a variety of learning methods, gives students more time to learn to read after school, give a support and convince that God is with each step they are taking.
