Abstract

The language ability of students is the most important aspect of classroom learning that requires a teacher's attention. Students' cognitive abilities can be seen through various abilities when learning English, one of them is language ability. Students with good language ability can understand the teacher's instructions, follow the lesson well, and achieve good learning outcomes. However, what happened with the 10th graders in one school at Lampung was that the students did not understand the teacher's instructions. Project-based learning was chosen as a learning method to better engage students' language skills in the classroom. Project-based learning allows students to interact with and learn from each group member. The purpose of this study was to learn about the causes of poor English language skills among grade 10 students in a Lampung school and how project- based learning in the classroom can help students improve their language skills. The descriptive qualitative method was used to conduct this research. Finally, the use of project-based learning can help students improve their language skills. According to the author of this study, teachers can apply project-based learning to students in elementary school.
