Abstract

Methods: This study is an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. Data was collected using an online questionnaire which was distributed via social media and analyzed using the chi square method.
Results: Total respondents in this study were 103 respondents, the majority of respondents were women as many as 79 people (76.7%) respondents, while men only amounted to 24 people (23.3%) respondents. The largest age group was 20 years with 27 people (23.7%). The youngest age in this study was 17 years as many as 8 people (7.0%) and the oldest age in this study was 26 years only 1 person (0.9%). There were 68 respondents (66%) who listened to music for ≥35 minutes, 18 people (17.4%) listened to music for 20-35 minutes, 16 people (15.5%) listened to music for 10-20 minutes, and only 1 person (1%) listened to music for ≤10 minutes. Mild stress was experienced by 37 respondents (35.9%), moderate stress was experienced by 11 people (10.6%), and there were 55 people (53.3%) who experienced severe levels of stress. Based on the results of the chi-square test, it was found that there was a significant relationship between the duration of listening to music and stress levels (p=0.001) by listening to music for ≥35 minutes would reduce the risk of stress by 17% [OR (95% CI) = 0.204 (0.084) -0.497)]
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the duration of listening to music and stress levels in preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Pelita Harapan University.
