Abstract
Inovasi media baru seperti internet memain peran besar di dalam mempengaruhi semua bentuk kehidupan sehari-hari, apalagi terhadap bentuk hiburan media. Permainan video games adalah satu contoh inovasi media hiburan tersebut, dan dampaknya yang besar di dalam masyarakat modern hari ini membantu pemain di dalam mengekspresikan dirinya, dengan membentuk identitas-identitas virtual. Salah satu game yang menyediakan hal tersebut adalah Grand Theft Auto NoPixel Roleplay, dimana para pemain dapat membentuk dan memerankan karakter buat orang lain bisa menonton dan berinteraksi, hal ini dapat disebut sebagai roleplaying. Penelitian ini ingin memfokuskan bagaimana pemain mengatur kesannya di dalam Grand Theft Auto NoPixel Roleplay dalam membentuk identitas karakter yang diinginkan.
Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, dan peneliti memakai Netnografi sebagai metode penelitian tersebut. Peneliti mengguankan teknik pengumpulan dari hasil wawancara, partisipasi komunitas dan observasi, data tersebut akan didukung dengan data sekunder yang berbentuk konten yang dipublikasi di dalam internet. Informan di dalam penelitian tersebut merupakan pemain yang mempunyai alasan-alasan berbeda di dalam bermain game tersebut. Informan di dalam penelitian ini mewakili semua pemain di dalam komunitas permainan Grand Theft Auto NoPixel Roleplay.
It is now universally agreed upon that innovations of the new media like the internet have played a massive role in influencing all forms of our everyday life, even forms of entertainment are affected by this. Video games are the product of such influence, and its impact in modern day society plays a tremendous role in helping people to express themselves, by giving people the ability to create new forms of identities. In one such game, called Grand Theft Auto NoPixel Roleplay, players are to create and perform characters for other people to see and interact with, in what is referred to as roleplaying. This research is expected to explain why and how players of Grand Theft Auto NoPixel Roleplay manage their impressions through the characters they have built.
This research uses qualitative approach and is accompanied with Netnography as its case study method. Interviews, community participation and observation serve as methods in gathering primary data. Secondary sources include the use of community published content in the internet to support the information that is gathered. Informants include players that have different reasons in playing the game, to which they represent the players in the community of Grand Theft Auto NoPixel.
