Abstract
Nowadays, you can use a game engine to create a game. Game engines usually have features that are needed in a game depending on the specialization of the engine. There is one game engine called Ren'Py that uses Python as a programming language to create visual novel games. Then the question arises whether Ren'Py can make games other than visual novels, for example, RPG (role-playing games).
In this research, a role-playing game was created using Ren'Py by applying the Heather Chandler game development life cycle and the GameFlow evaluation method. Heather Chandler's game development life cycle is a method to develop a game with 4 stages. These stages are pre-production, production, testing, and post-production. GameFlow is a game evaluation method based on flow theory. GameFlow has elements that can be used to evaluate the quality of a game.
By using Heather Chandler's game development life cycle and GameFlow evaluation, this research successfully created an RPG game titled Story of Alex: Legend of No-One. The game uses Python as the basis of existing systems such as the combat system, leveling up system, and item storage system. By applying the One-Sample Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test statistical method, it was found that the median value of the GameFlow evaluation results had a significant difference from the hypothesized value. Thus, it can be said that the game was successfully created with a score close to above average. / Dewasa ini, untuk membuat sebuah gim dapat menggunakan game engine.Game engine biasanya memiliki fitur-fitur yang dibutuhkan dalam sebuah game bergantung dari spesialisasi engine tersebut. Terdapat satu game engine bernama Ren’Py yang menggunakan Python sebagai bahasa pemrograman untuk membuat gim bergenre novel visual. Ren’Py sendiri dibuat sebagai game engine yang khusus untuk membuat gim novel visual. Kemudian munculah pertanyaan apakah Ren’Py dapat membuat gim selain novel visual, contohnya RPG (role playing games).
Dalam penelitian ini, dilakukan pembuatan gim role playing games menggunakan Ren’Py dengan menerapkan Heather Chandler game development life cycle serta metode pengujian GameFlow. Heather Chandler game development life cycle merupakan sebuah metode untuk mengembangkan sebuah gim dengan 4 tahap. Tahap-tahap tersebut adalah pre-production, production, testing, dan post-production. GameFlow adalah metode evaluasi sebuah gim yang dibuat berdasarkan teori flow. GameFlow memiliki elemen elemen yang dapat digunakan untuk mengevaluasi kualitas dari sebuah gim.
Dengan menggunakan Heather Chandler game development life cycle dan evaluasi GameFlow, penelitian ini berhasil membuat gim RPG berjudul Story of Alex: Legend of No-One. Gim ini menggunakan Python sebagai dasar dari sistem yang ada seperti sistem pertarungan, sistem naik level, dan sistem penyimpanan barang. Dengan menerapkan metode statistik One-Sample Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, diperoleh bahwa nilai median dari hasil evaluasi GameFlow memiliki perbedaan yang signifikan dengan nilai hipotesa. Dengan demikian, dapat dikatakan bahwa gim tersebut berhasil dibuat dengan nilai mendekati above average.
