Abstract
Masalah yang sering ditemui oleh guru di sekolah ialah kemampuan
berhitung siswa yang rendah. Hal ini terbukti dari fakta yang peneliti temukan
dilapangan, dimana peneliti melihat kurangnya pelatihan yang dilakukan oleh siswa
membuat kemampuan siswa dalam berhitung sangat rendah. Hal inilah yang
menjadi alasan bagi peneliti untuk mengambil tindakan dalam menyelesaikan
permasalahan tersebut. Peneliti kemudian menemukan suatu metode yang mampu
menangani permasalahan yang ada dan meningkatkan kemampuan kognitif siswa,
dimana metode tersebut ialah metode drill.
Peneliti melakukan penerapan dengan menggunakan metode ini sebanyak
3 kali yaitu pada 10, 12 dan 18 Oktober 2018. Berdasarkan penerapan metode yang
dilakukan peneliti, metode ini terbukti mampu meningkatkan kemampuan kognitif
siswa melalui hasil belajar yang diperoleh. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat dari
peningkatan persentase nilai siswa yang terus meningkat selama tiga kali penerapan
metode. Pada penerapan pertama, terlihat adanya peningkatan mencapai 69%,
kemudian dilanjutkan lagi dengan penerapan yang kedua dan kembali meningkat
menjadi 79%. Peneliti kemudian menerapkan kembali metode yang sama pada
pertemuan ketiga dan kembali terjadi peningkatan menjadi 83%. Dari penelitian ini,
peneliti ingin menyampaikan bahwa penggunaan metode drill dalam meningkatkan
kemampuan kognitif siswa telah tercapai dimana pada setiap penerapan yang
dilakukan terbukti mengalami peningkatan./ Student’s count operation capability is one of the important skill in education. The
count operation included addition, reduction, multiplication and division. Basically,
counting operation material which is mixed count operation is taught and trained
by the elementary teacher. This material is important because it will give impact on
student’s life.
The problem that often found out by the teacher in the classroom is student’s poor
numeracy skill. This is proven by the fact at the field experience which found out
by researcher that lack of practice will led to the poor numeracy skill. According to
this problem the researcher take an action to solve this problem. The researcher
then decided to use drill method to increase student ability on congnitive domain.
The researcher have applied drill method for three times on 10th, 12nd, and 18th
October 2018. Based on the student’s learning result using drilling method will
increase student’s cognitive ability. This statement strengthened with the increment
of score percentage that always increase when the method applied. On the first
application the improvement that achived is 69% followed with 79% at the second
application and at the third application increased until 83%. From this research the
it proved that the use of drilling method helps to increase student’s numeracy skill
based on the applictaions that always increased.
