Abstract
STAD dilaksanakan berdasarkan langkah-langkah berikut: 1) pembentukan kelompok, 2) penentuan skor awal, 3) mengajar, 4) belajar tim, dan 5) tes dan rekognisi tim./ Students’ engagement in the classroom is one of the success student’s outcomes component to attain the effectiveness of learning, interesting, and enjoyable. But in reality, students did not get engaged in the learning process. So to resolve the problem, researches apply cooperative learning type Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) to increase students’ engagement. The purpose of this research is to know that STAD’s application can or not enhance student’s engagement and to explain the steps of STAD’s application can or not enhance the student’s engagement in the grade XII. The class action research model used was a Pelton model. In this research STAD has already had to do two times. The study was conducted in a 12th grade language at BOPKRI 1 high school Yogyakarta from July 16, to November 2, 2018. This study used supported sources of data: research’s reflection journals, RPP, checklist and feedback. Research indicates that students’ engagement increased by applying STAD to the learning process. The 2 nd application, the teaching indicators for behavioral engagement increases by 11,06% and in the learning group indicators, behavioral engagement, emotional and cognitive engagement increased in a sequence of 12,74%, 8,3%, and 12,5% compared with the 1st application. The STAD is implemented by applying the following steps: 1) making a group, 2) initial settling of scores, 3) teaching, 4) learning in their own group and 5) test and team recognition.
