Abstract
Penelitian ini didasarkan pada hasil observasi peneliti di kelas VII SMP sekolah
XYZ bahwa kebanyakan siswa memiliki pemahaman konseptual yang rendah pada mata
pelajaran IPA. Melihat situasi ini maka sangat diperlukan suatu model pembelajaran
untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep pada materi pembelajaran kalor. Diharapkan
melalui penerapan metode ini tujuan peneliti dapat tercapai, yaitu meningkatkan
pemahaman konsep melalui penerapan metode Group Investigation dan mengetahui
langkah-langkah penerapan metode Group Investigation dalam peningkatkan pemahaman
konsep siswa.
Penelitian ini adalah sebuah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang dilakukan di
SMP XYZ, sebuah sekolah di Lampung. PTK dengan dua siklus ini dilaksanakan pada
tanggal 18 Oktober – 25 Oktober 2016 dengan melibatkan 12 orang siswa. Hasil data
dianalisa dengan menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Instrumen yang
digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah lembar observasi penerapan metode, lembar
observasi pemahaman konsep, lembar tes, lembar angket siswa, dan jurnal refleksi. Hasil
penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Group
Investigation dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep mata pelajaran IPA materi kalor
siswa kelas VII SMP di sekolah XYZ. Metode pembelajaran Group Investigation dapat
dilakukan dengan siswa secara heterogen dibagi dalam beberapa kelompok, guru dan
siswa memilih permasalahan-permasalahan investigasi, guru dan siswa menentukan
metode investigasi, setiap kelompok bekerja berdasarkan metode investigasi yang telah
dirumuskan, siswa melakukan investigasi mulai dari mengumpulkan data, analisis data,
hingga menarik kesimpulan, siswa mempresentasikan hasil investigasi kelompok secara
bergantian di depan kelas yang dikoordinir oleh guru, siswa mendengarkan evaluasi dari
guru, dan siswa melakukan kuis. / Based on observation of researcher which was done at XYZ School grade VII, it
was found that most of the students had low conceptual understanding of Natural Science.
The researcher decided to implement Group Investigation method in order to solve this
problem. The aims of this research are to improve the students’ conceptual understanding
through the implementation of Group Investigation method and to know the steps of
implementation of Group Investigation method in order to improve students’ conceptual
understanding.
The method of this research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was
done in SMP XYZ in Lampung. This CAR that run in two cycles that was conducted on
October 18 – October 25, 2016 involving 12 students. The qualitative descriptive analysis
was the technique used to analyze the data. Instrumens that used for collecting data in this
research were observation sheet for method implementation, observation sheet for
conceptual understanding of students’ sheet, individual test sheet, questionnaire sheet,
and reflection journal. The result of the research shows that cooperative learning type
Group Investigation could improve grade VII students conceptual understanding of
natrural science in learning about heat at school XYZ. Group investigation method can be
done by students in a heterogenous divided into several groups, teachers and students
choose problems to investigation, teachers and students determine the investigation
method, each groups works based on methods of investigation that has been formulated,
students starts investigation from collecting data, data analysis, and made conclusions,
students presented the results of investigation in front of the class that coordinated by
teachers, students listened to evaluation by teachers and students took a quiz.
