In general, there is a regulation which basically state that the copyright of the work of the contestants will become the copyright of the contest organizers in illustration contests in Indonesia. Based on this, the author appoints two formulations of the problem, consisting of (a). How can the regulation stating the transfer of copyrights of the works of the contestants in a contest be declared as a violation of UUHC 2014? (b). How is the legal protection of contestants – who are creators, when there is a copyright transfer based on UUHC 2014? This research was conducted with the aim to analyze the contest regulation stating the transfer of copyrights of the works of the contestants based on UUHC 2014 and find out the legal protections that protect contestants. The author applies a normative-empirical legal research type research method. The author makes use of secondary data collected from literature studies on law and illustrations, as well as primary data collected through interviews with contestants and organizers. In this study, the author found that there were still transfers of copyrights of the works of the contestants and understandings – both the organizers and contestants, that were not in accordance with UUHC 2014. The author concludes that the transfer of copyrights that is owned by contestants must be carried out properly and based on UUHC 2014. Besides that, public understanding of copyrights must be further improved.
