Abstract
School is a community in which students and teachers can relate to one another. Humans can have a community because they are God’s creation who are created in His own image. God relates to one another, then humans also need to relate with other people. In school, students are being shaped not only in their academic, but also in their character. In a school, in which the research was held, has a system to nurture the students which is by using caring community. Caring has a sense of pleasant atmosphere in a community. Therefore, this research is aiming to find how teachers and students participate in building caring community. The data have been collected by using three instruments which are interview guideline questions, questionnaire, and observation form. The data show that caring community do not really has significant role in shaping students’ character, but through caring community students can be nurtured by teachers better every single day. This happens because in caring community students are being taught to love and reflect on their situation. As the result, teachers and students need to participate actively to build caring in the community.
