Abstract
Student’s concept understanding is an ability to explain information in an
unique and better way. The test result show that the students who pass the minimum
criteria of mastery learning is 17,6%. It shows that the students can’t understand
the Biology concept. The development of Think-Pair-Share and Mindmapping as
Class Action Research is used for resolving this problem. This reseach’s aim is for
increasing student’s concept understanding through the implementation of the
development of Think-Pair-Share and Mindmapping method.
Kemmis and McTaggart model is used for this Class Action Research in 2
cycles. Research subject consist of 10 male and 7 female students. Research
instrument consist of test, observation, questionnaire and refletion journal. Analysis
descriptive, likert scale, and rating scale are used as data analysis.
Research result shows that Think-Pair-Share and Mindmapping can
increase student’s concept understanding. Test result shows the increasing of
minimum criteria of mastery learning from pre-cycle to 2nd cycle as 74,8%. This
method implementation can increase student’s concept understanding as follow the
steps: 1) explain the materials, 2) lead the students to think the subject materials, 3)
lead the students in pair discussion and make a mindmap, 4)choose some pair
groups to share the discussion result on their mindmap, and 5) give individual test.
