Abstract

Tradisi Larik merupakan salah satu tradisi otentik masyarakat Etnis Riung, Ngada, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). Tradisi ini menampilkan cerminan tarian perang yang dilakukan sekali dalam setahun di setiap kampung adat masyarakat Etnis Riung sebagai sarana mempererat persaudaraan. Dalam rangkaian proses pelaksanaannya tradisi Larik melibatkan penggunaan simbol-simbol yang memiliki makna yang dapat diinterpretasikan. Namun, eksposisi tradisi ini masih sangat terbatas untuk beberapa suku tertentu. Penelitian empiris maupun non empiris yang ada berfokus pada agenda pariwisata bahari Riung. Sampai saat penelitian ini ditulis belum ada penelitian yang meneliti tradisi Larik secara komprehensif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi simbol-simbol dalam tradisi Larik dan mengeksplorasi makna dari simbol-simbol tersebut di dalam interaksi sosial masyarakat Etnis Riung. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus dan mengelaborasi temuan penelitian dengan teori interaksi simbolik. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yakni wawancara, FGD dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan sejarah Larik pada dua desa yang diteliti sehingga mengakibatkan perbedaan minor pada eksistensi simbol-simbol yang ada hingga saat ini. Namun, secara keseluruhan, kedua desa tersebut memiliki pemaknaan umum yang sama pada tradisi ini. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan, simbol verbal dan non verbal pada tradisi Larik dapat dimaknai secara personal maupun kolektif dalam proses interaksi sosial masyarakat/The Larik Tradition is one of the authentic traditions of the Riung Ethnic Community in Ngada, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia. This tradition showcases a reflection of a war dance performed once a year in every traditional village of the Riung Ethnic Community as a means of strengthening brotherhood. In the implementation process, the Larik tradition involves the use of symbols that hold interpretative meanings. However, the exposition of this tradition is still very limited to certain ethnic groups. Existing empirical and non-empirical research has focused on the maritime tourism agenda in Riung. As of the writing of this research, there has been no comprehensive study on the Larik tradition. This study aims to identify the symbols in the Larik tradition and explore the meanings of these symbols within the social interactions of the Riung Ethnic Community. The research adopts a qualitative approach with a case study method and elaborates on the research findings using symbolic interaction theory. Data collection techniques employed include interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and observations. The results of the research show that there are differences in the history of Larik in the two villages studied, resulting in minor variations in the existing symbols' significance until today. However, overall, both villages share a common understanding of this tradition. Therefore, it can be concluded that the verbal and non-verbal symbols in the Larik tradition can be interpreted personally and collectively within the social interaction processes of the community.
