Abstract
Childbirth results in significant changes of a woman’s body shape and weight. Often, these changes are perceived negatively by women, and thus could result in body image dissatisfaction. In this research, postpartum body image dissatisfaction refers to a mother’s dissatisfied feelings towards aspects experienced 0-2 years post-delivery. Research has shown self-compassion is suggested to be a protective factor and could mitigate a person’s body image dissatisfaction. The aim of this research is to study whether there exists a relationship between self-compassion and postpartum body image dissatisfaction in new mothers specifically in Indonesia. This research is done in a quantitative approach using correlational design. Data for this research was gathered from 60 participants using the MBSRQ-AS and SWD. Results show there exists a significant positive correlation between self-compassion and body image satisfaction.
