Abstract

In teaching and learning process, a teacher has learning objectives that must be achieved by students thus, learning can be successful. Usually these objectives can be achieved using formative assessment which is done in teaching and learning process. However, the writer found that many fourth-grade students in one school in Jakarta were unable to collect formative assessment during the learning process because of students’ motivation is low. Therefore, the writer wants to analyze the use of reward to motivate students in collecting formative assessments. Based on the findings that the writer met, grade four students have concrete thinking characteristics so that grade four students can be motivated with concrete reward, in this case the writer uses smile sticker as concrete reward that motivate students to collect formative assessments. In the psychosocial stage, grade four elementary students are in the industry versus inferiority stage in which grade four students can channel their energy to develop their abilities so they can get reward, on the contrary grade four elementary school students also easily feel sorry if they cannot achieve the reward. Therefore, when the writer used smile sticker for grade four students to collect formative assessments, grade four students can collect it on time.
