Abstract
Pemahaman konsep merupakan salah satu keterampilan matematika yang
penting untuk dimiliki oleh siswa. Akan tetapi, berdasarkan hasil observasi yang
dilakukan pada salah satu sekolah di Tangerang, peneliti menemukan bahwa
pemahaman konsep siswa kelas XI khususnya pada topik peluang masih rendah.
Salah satu penyebabnya ialah pengajaran yang disampaikan lebih berfokus pada
penerapan metode ceramah. Oleh karena itu, peneliti memutuskan untuk
menggunakan model pembelajaran tipe MAM dengan tujuan meningkatkan
pemahaman konsep siswa serta mengetahui langkah-langkah penerapan metode
MAM dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa.
Metode penelitian yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah PTK dengan model
kemmis dan Taggart yang berlangsung dalam dua siklus. Penelitian dilaksanakan
di salah satu sekolah ABC kelas XI sejak 3 Agustus - 13 November 2015.
Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan ialah lembar tes tertulis, lembar
observasi, lembar kuesioner, dan jurnal refleksi. Data dari instrumen-instrumen
tersebut akan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh dari
setiap instrumen penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan MAM dapat
meningkatkan pemahaman konsep peluang siswa kelas XI di sekolah ABC./ Conceptual understanding is one of the mathematical skills that very
important for students to have. But based on the observation result that has been
done in one of the schools in Tangerang, the researcher found that student’s
conceptual understanding in grade XI, especially on the topic of probability is still
low. One of the reasons is because the teaching method that used is more focused
on the method of lecturing. Therefore, the researcher decided to use MAM, one of
the learning methods that can increase the student’s conceptual understanding and
know the steps in the implementation of MAM method to improving the student’s
conceptual understanding.
The research method that used in this study is CAR (Classroom Action
Research) with Kemmis and Taggart that consist of two cycles. The study was
conducted in one of the schools ABC grade of XI, on August 3
rd
–November 13th
2015. The Instrument data collection that used was a written test sheet,
observation sheet, questioner sheet, and reflection journal. The final result based
on the data collection from each instrument can be seen that the implementation
of MAM could improve the student’s conceptual understanding of probability in
grade XI at ABC school.
